The Giving Myths

Philanthropist, fundraising executive and author Dr. Steve McSwain believes that sharing is the only sensible way of surviving our current financial crisis. For more than a decade, he has crisscrossed America speaking to thousands of people each year and consulting with hundreds of religious institutions and philanthropic organizations. Generosity is the antidote to greed and the happiest and healthiest people are those who have learned to be extravagantly generous. His book, The Giving Myths, identifies the seven most common myths about giving that keep people from being generous.

Discussion points:
  • Teaching kids the financial basics - save a little, share a little, before spending the rest
  • Raising charitable children
  • Charitable giving – even in today’s market
  • Myths that keep us trapped in the “madness of materialism”
